Artist description
Alabama Thunderpussy deliver 10 ass-kickin' shots of "moonshine metal" on their Relapse debut "Staring at the Divine". With the one-two punch of low-end rumble and twin-guitar harmonies inspired by Thin Lizzy and Judas Priest, and the do-it-yourself work ethic of their punk-rock roots, Alabama Thunderpussy's songs run roughshod over their contemporaries and straight through your head. "Staring at the Divine" serves up the soundtrack to a whiskey-soaked rumble and showcases Alabama Thunderpussy's outrageous blend of volume, distortion and blazing hard rock.

Artist History
In Richmond, Virginia, USA, On a dirt floor basement, in 1996, Bryan Cox, Erik Larson and Asechiah Bogdan founded Alabama Thunderpussy. Fueled by a desire to play dirty, kick-ass Rock-N-Roll, they learned to play their instruments and began assaulting the local basement show circuit singerless. Shortly thereafter, Bill Storms joined on bass. The next step was a singer. After several failed attempts to find the right person (1. Diamond Mudguts and 2. Adrienne Droogas) the band found Johhny Throckmorton and by 1997 the line-up was complete. With a full band, A.T.P quickly went into the studio to record their 6-song demo with the purpose of having something to sell at shows. One of these tapes landed in the hands of Frank Kozik (Mr Man's Ruin Records !). An offer was made to release the demo tape as a CD ep but A.T.P. was already in the habit of constantly writing songs, so in the fall of 1997 the 1st full length 'Rise Again' was recorded and released by Man's Ruin in the summer of 1998. In the interim between recording and releasing 'Rise Again', Bill Storms was asked to leave the band and Sam Krivanec quickly filled the void. Inspired and invigorated by the new line-up, A.T.P. went back into the studio again and recorded 'River City Revival' prior to the release of 'Rise Again' and it's subsequent tour of the Southern States of America. 'River City Revival' was later released in the winter of 1999. Within a month of that release, A.T.P. was on tour in support of the new album (stopping off in Austin TX to play the Man's Ruin showcase @ SXSW) A.T.P. headed back into the studio in August of 1999 to record again for Man's Ruin for a release in Spring 2000 with extensive touring, including the bands first tour of Europe with High On Fire. 28 shows in 29 days with over 50 bottles of whiskey! Summer 2000 brought the arrival of bass-man Bingo Tuggel, shortly after the departure of Sam Krivanec. And back on the road with a full U.S tour & a tour of the U.K
Y2k also brought splits with Halway To Gone & Orange Goblin and tracks on Aerosmith & Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute comps. spring 2001 saw another full U.S tour with Suplecs & Dixie Witch.
Then it was time to record our 4th album, this time with legendary producer Billy Anderson, whose past achievements have been working with The Melvins, Sleep, High On Fire, Eye Hate God, Orange Goblin, Lost Goat, Burning Witch & more. Summer 2001 saw the departure of both Asechiah Bogdan & Bingo Tuggel. They were replaced by Ryan Lake on guitar & John Peters on bass. Release of our 4th album has taken longer due to Man's Ruin Records cease trading. But have no fear ATP's album number four will be released on Relapse Records spring 2002. The goal of this band has been from day one to kick as much ass as is humanly possible and that is what we will continue to devote ourselves to. |

Press Reviews
KERRANG! feb 26th 2000
Album: Constellation
Even cowpunks get the blues. Two-thirds of the way through 'Constellation', Alabama Thunderpussy start to ease off the gas pedal that they've been pumping solidliy for the past 30 minutes and wind down the windows in order to air the Southern-fried balladry of '15 minute drive'.
It's not exactly a welcome relief, but it does give you time to catch your breath.
'Constellation is the sort of album that Lynyrd Synyrd could have made, Corrosion Of Conformity should have made and James Hetfield only dream about making !'
An extended forefinger to the face of fashion, it's a 50-minute long Yeehaw! of a record, complete with moonshine guitars, whisky-soaked vocals and even the strategically deployed cowbell for good measure.
But this isn't just hairy palmed neanderthal boogie. No siree. This is hairy palmed neanderthal boogie with a dose of class Just listen to the way the thunderous rumble that is '1/4 Mile' suddenly explodes into a starburst of down-home piano , or sit back and take in the flecks of space-rock dusted over the closing jam 'Country Song'.
Better still, ATP possess the kind of punk rock edge that most of their refer-toting peers would die for. It's in everything Johnny Throckmorten's vulpine bellow to the way they stagger manfully from 'Six Shooter' to 'Second Wave' to 'Obsari', denting cars and pissing against lamp-posts along the way.
Monster Magnet may be slicker and Unida may be classier, but truckstop rock doesn't come any finer than this.
