Artist description Emerging from the overstocked shelves of furry Koala key rings and boomerangs that is the tourist city of Cairns is the heavily funk influenced, rap sounds of Souvenir City. Since their inception in January 2000 Souvenir City have been rocking the tourist glitz of Cairns Far North Queensland. The band have expanded their horizons, relocating to Brisbane, their mission, educating folk with their unique blend of funky Aussie Hip Hop tunes that never fail to get the crowd pumping. Comprising of four individuals culminating to produce a unique tropical sound that sets them apart from the rest. Souvenir City have been turning heads in the Far North, already playing alongside the likes of Sunk Loto, Endorphin, George, Nokturnal and MC Trey. Early 2001 saw the independent release of their self-titled EP of which several tracks were given airtime on Triple j. This has given rise to Souvenir City’s full-length album New Flavour, on sale at the end of March 2002, as they promote the album in the sunny Brisvegas and surrounding areas. A tour is planned later in the year to the southern most part of the continent where Souvenir City will be delivering their unmistakable funky home grown Australian tunes and their trademark powerful live performances.

Music Style funk influenced, hip hop/rap

Group Members Zach Eakin otherwise Known as eMCYTe, Souvenir City’s front man and rapper extraordinaire, who at the age of 21 has already got an impressive history behind him. His career was given a kick-start when he entered the national Triple j rap off competition coming a very close second. Since that day eMCYTe has been leading Souvenir City with his strong lyrical agility and a stage presence that has to be seen to be believed. Jane Sharp otherwise known as Captain Janeway is the backbone of the group producing the samples and commanding the keyboards to produce the unique Souvenir city sound. Featuring on a track from the worldwide acclaimed Aphex Twin and also teaming up with Cylob, the Captain is an accomplished electronic artist. Jesse Faber is chief bassman, playing the Cairns scene for 8 years with various bands supporting the likes of Regurgitator, Skunkhour, Front end Loader, The Cruel Sea, Tumbleweed, Sunk Loto and George just to name a few. A passion for funk is the inspiration for his phat bass lines that make you want to move that booty. Beat master Dal Smart, drives the band from behind on the kit with plenty of old and new Skool beats that are an integral part of the Souvenir City experience. Also playing in another Far North outfit Hot Rubber Glove who have been receiving considerable Triple j airplay, Dal is a drummer who’s beats always incorporate a little odd time and are far from the norm.
