Artist History
Mexico 1910 formed in January 2001 with former members of the indie-pop band Turtle Search. After Turtle Search's performance at the 2000 CMJ Music Marathon the group disbanded and their singer relocated out of state. A few months later the remaining members regrouped to pursue a more angular instrumental direction while still retaining their sense of melody. They began playing live one month later and now frequently play venues in the Southeast. Their first studio recordings were issued in December 2001 on a self-titled independent release. A 4-song EP, "Sharpen Your Crutches", was released Spring 2003 on Granny Style Records. Mexico 1910 lists their influences as instrumental bands such as Mogwai, Godspeed You Black Emperor! and Tristeza. They have performed with such artists as ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead, Maserati, Explosions in the Sky, Audio Explorations and the Flying Luttenbachers. They are from New Orleans, Louisiana. |
