Artist History
A little history...
Directline has its beginnings as a group of four guys with a passion to play music, but no venue to host it. It began with Dan and Nick (both juniors at GWU at the time) asking Joshua to join them to be the GWU campus FCA band for worship services. Playing with their old drummer, Johnny Bradley, they grew musically, but still had room to progress and their taste in music was being re-shaped as well. Nick played in the now defunct Solomon's Porch with Directline's drummer, Jason Blanton. Jason was called in as a fill-in for Johnny when he went chute-packin' for the army. Jason became a permanent member of the worship band then known as "The Athletes" (jokingly because none of them posess any bit of real athletic talent). Expanding worship music and pushing its boundaries they integrated secular riffs and intros to hype the FCA worship time.
With more practice and a growing restlessness to take their music farther the band decided to write and record their first worship album of some original songs and some worship covers. This early attempt was good experience for them, but only made them eager to stretch themselves further to enter the wider music scene of Charlotte, NC and beyond.
While still keeping up with FCA and Church gigs (youth rallies, etc.) the band began to write newer songs with a less blatant (or sometimes non-existent) spiritual tone that they hoped would be the next step in their maturity as a band. With four songs they wrote and recorded a demo EP under the name of Hometown Hero only later to find out that a much more established band in California (isn't everyone from out there?) had already proven they owned that name. By changing their name to DirectLINE the band became more serious and they continue to push themselves to write more innovative songs in the straight-up rock style (awwww...they'd make ol' Dave Grohl proud). |
