Artist History
The groundbreaking Bay Area Rap/Rock/Funk combo known for their innovative sound, predating the explosion of lesser acts Kid Rock and Limp Bizkit. Breaking out into the music scene in late 1991, the Beatnicks quickly garned a passionate following. With their mysterious disapperance in late 1993 (followed by rumors of founding member Sleepy T's death in a drive-by while waiting for change at a local Taco Bell), fans were left with no subsequent information on the band. A box set, released in 1995 (featu ring the hits "Breaking the Law", "Love and War", "Cool Cats", and an early live performance of "Amie Peterson's Song" -- featuring MC Little Foot rocking the mike in an intimate setting) were met with rampant speculation of a reunion, though none surfac e d.
Recent tremors in the Los Angeles underground have given rise to reports that guitarist Dan the Angel Man and keyboardist MC Journalist had escaped to the sunnier climate, and were preparing to reemerge, claiming the musical throne so rightfully the ir s.
As 2002 stretches on, the new Dead Beatnicks record (rumored to be titled everything from "A Storm 10 Years in the Making" to "FaceHole" to "Tribal Disco Noise Still Sucks") is listed by many critics most anticipated new album, second only to Axl Rose's new Guns N' Roses album, and the long awaited Neil Diamond/Barbara Streisand re-collaboration, "You Still Aren't Bringing Me Flowers, Bitch." g |
