Press Reviews Dish of the Day: October 3, 2001 MY NAME IS LUCCA: If you think the Mickey Mouse Club was all about Justin, JC, Christina and Britney, think again. MMC alum Tony Lucca's quietly working on a solo career (his second CD's called Strong Words, Softly Spoken after all) -- and we think he's destined for greatness. Lucca performed two shows in New York City over the weekend, so seventeen went downtown to check him out. Tony came on the stage, dressed in jeans and an untucked plaid shirt, and looked around incredulously at the packed house. "Wow! Thanks for coming out tonight," he grinned. Tony sat down at the piano for his first tune, a rendition of Billy Joel's "New York State of Mind." "I really felt like playing this tonight," he told us. After that touching tribute, Tony kicked off his shoes and picked up his acoustic guitar. He strummed out a folksy, blues song -- and pretty soon, everyone was swaying and tapping their feet. Lucca alternated slow and upbeat songs through his one hour performance -- and he really shined during the latter. The twangy "Hollywood Chain Gang" vividly painted images of actors waiting for their big break and artists struggling to make ends meet.
