Artist History Born and raised in Israel by a Turkish mother and Russian father, Shony absorbed all the diverse elements from his environment as he grew up. Living by the gun, grappling with regional realities, cultivating the desert, riding camels with the Bedouins, re-living the horror of the Eastern Europe holocaust and drumming for a belly dancer by a bonfire, all became part of his life. The story of Shony starts in the 50s in one of the few places on earth where ancient history, cutting edge technology, traditions from Europe and customs from Africa were brewed in a small Middle Eastern pot to create the unique, multi faceted, fiery culture of the people of Israel. Shony's way to provide an outlet for what life has given him has been through music since he was a child. Shony has been playing the guitar and writing music since the age of 14. At 17 he formed a rock band and continued performing during his military service in Israel. At the age of 22 Shony enjoyed national TV and radio recognition as a member of a popular band backing a national Israeli superstar. Since 1993 Shony has been teaching his unique approach to guitar playing and has written a guitar book specifically for non-music readers. Shony continues to write, produce and perform new material.
