Artist description
In August of 1993 I adopted the moniker 'Moth', a spirit that flies into the light time and again regardless of singeing or blinding. Tragic, perplexing, yet somehow admirable; the name change reflected my newfound psychedelic awareness. The MO was, at first, analog drum machine, toy keyboards, borrowed effects and a four-track. Then I got hold of a digital drum machine, analog synth and nicer effects. The 'Moth' sound slowly evolved into one of pure crystal--midi sequenced. The idea is to be as expressive as possible with one rule: every sound has to fit into a discreet point on a digital grid. The current MO is analog synth (Juno-1), KORG workstation, Boss DR-660 drum machine, Roland MC-303, and a twelve-track home studio. |

Artist History
I have been recording music and noise since autumn 1989 when I was a freshman in high school and just fourteen years old. The moniker I settled on to identify these early recordings was 'Necron', as I was going through a teenage death trip. Having no musical inclinations whatsoever, I was inspired by the techniques of artists like Throbbing Gristle, Nurse With Wound, Skinny Puppy and Coil. I started with whatever broken, dusty old tape decks, microphones and toy keyboards I could find. These early recordings were sub-standard in every sense, but I loved them. I traded tapes with friends through the mail and managed to sell a few through RPM records in my home town of Moscow, Idaho. These were listened to and enjoyed, but also crushed and thrown out of windows. |
