Artist description
Mayfly. The very word is a contradiction. How can a creature that lives one day be thought of as having any life at all? It's what you do with those 24 hours that counts. That's the spirit behind this band. Seattle's music scene provides about enough encouragement to sustain most new bands for one "day." Very few keep it together long enough to earn the respect of their fans, the venues and their peers. Mayfly is one such band. Formed in 1997 by Brian Marshall and Dan McKinnis, mayfly started out with one goal in mind-quality songwriting. The desire to write timeless music has stayed with them through writing and release of their first full-lenght cd "From This Point On" in 1999 to the recording of their soon-to-be released sophomore effort. With comparisons to many of todays most successful groups like R.E.M., Counting Crows, and Dave Matthews Band, Mayfly continues to build a name for itself. After the release of "From This Point On," Mayfly appeared on 90.3 FM KCMU(Seattle) radio's The Live Room program. This lead to an increased awareness of the band's music in the local club circuit. Three songs from the cd were licensed to MTV's the Road Rules for use on the season taped during Semester at Sea. Shortly thereafter, Mayfly was successful in launching it's full-service website www.mayfly.org featuring song lyrics, pictures, and news. Mayfly is also featured on SeattleSounds.com.
