Artist description
Going by the name Mac Dash Mone this rapper, producer, engineer; studio, and label owner can walk anywhere through the streets of Oakland and answer to names such as Dash, M-one, Mone and just about any other way you can shorten his name. (We choose to use the name Mone). But there is no confusion about who the man is.
Mone has been letting the Bay Area feast on his talents since the year 1986, where he and future Digital Underground stars Money B and DJ Fuze formed a group called Raw Fusion. They spent some time performing around the Bay Area before linking with Shock G and becoming gold and platinum artists. We all know the talents that have emerged from this late 80’s rap group, like raps original offbeat on beat persona Saafir, raps ultimate alter ego Humpty, and of course the 90’s most prolific artist 2Pac who ironically was introduced to Digital Underground thru his friendship with Mone.
After doing his time with Digital as a rapper, dancer, and even roadie, Mone started on a journey to hone his own skills. Spending time in studios and on stages learning what it takes to become a complete artist. This is evident in his appearances on other rap artist albums like 2Pacs Apocalypse album or from his many pictorials in magazines such as Billboard, Source, and Roots magazine all in an endeavor to fulfill his musical goals.
Back in 1997 Mone released a promotion single called “Angels are you There” b/w “No L’s” to prepare the Bay and the rest of the world for his upcoming album entitled “Mac Dash Mone’s Steppin up to The Plate”(July 1999). The albums title speaks for itself. Although billed under Mones name the album in a collection of songs that Mone put together showcasing not only his production and rapping skills, but also the skills of some of the Bay Area’s hottest rap talent.
