Press Reviews
If Jerry Dale McFadden didn't exist, David Lynch would have to invent him. Perhaps best-known as touring keyboardist/court jester for the Mavericks, McFadden bares a decidedly more disturbed/disturbing side on his solo albums, which overflow with psychosexual meanderings and out-of-kilter glam-country shadings that sound like jukebox selections from a roadhouse into which even the baddies in Deliverance wouldn't venture.
There's an eerie beauty to what McFadden does-accentuated by his unearthly singing voice, which splits the difference between Victoria Williams and a helium-filled Captain Beefheart. When he spills that voice between the cracks of elegantly wasted backing concocted by acolytes plucked from the ranks of the Cheap Trick fan club, Wilco, and the Mavericks, McFadden practically drenches listeners in the emotional backwash.
