Press Reviews
Future Music, readers demos by Tom Harding:Bubble Scum : Beat More Acid demo."Finland is allegedly experiencing a `golden age` of electronic music, and Bubble Scum`s demo seems to bear this out. Vaihe has been makin music for five years and describes his style as "Sci-fi groowe meets Finnish forest funk featuring psychedelic powerdisco".This genre of music doesen`t typically get much media coverage, but perhaps it`s all the rage in Finland. Who cares in fact as Beat more acid is great! It`s hard to describe. It falls somewhere in `Chems-meet-Underworld-meet-psychedelia land` and the outcome is highly original. Screaming vocals compliment breakbeats and wailing acid linesand the power and energy are immense. It`s catchy yet not commercial. What I like about Beat More Acid is that it stands out from the crowd. The elements gel together brilliantly with the vocals arguably beingthe factor which lift the track to its giddy heights. They are mesmerising, powerful, emotional and unique in style. Karl Hyde beware, here comes the Finnish competition. The only other track on the demo is Fuel On. Again a breakbeat-driven number, this time the hook line comes from courtesy of some funky guitars. The vocals again provide the emotion and feeling, and I couldn`t help being reminded of The Stone Roses´ Fools gold era; funky beats coupled with heavy guitars and tripped-out vocals. Exellent, and a refreshing change to many of the demos that we seem to get." |
