Artist description
The Walk-Ups are a San Francisco-based post-punk band whose music ranges from dark, plaintive, and pretty to riotous, fuzz-fried rave-ups, with stops along the way at all points in between. Their music covers a variety of styles, and although their sound is rooted in poignant, aggressive rock with a strong sense of pop hooks, you will also hear touches of folk-rock and punk in their songs. |

Artist History
Teri and Michael first met in the spring of 2000 and began woodshedding, writing songs together. With the addition in early summer 2001 of Ben Schaefer on drums, the trio began rehearsing and arranging material and christened themselves "The Walk-Ups." They played their first gig at the tail end of 2001 and soon added Dave Lander on guitar and vocals. Gigging steadily throughout the spring of 2002, the band went on hiatus over the summer when it became clear that Ben would have to leave to focus on other interests. Hooking up with Joe Gusich in September, the band began playing out again with an expanded repertoire. With the news toward the end of the year that Dave wanted to focus more on his own music, he and the band amicably parted ways and the search began for a replacement. Having found great musical chemistry with new guitarist Paul Gries, the Walk-Ups are preparing to begin aggressively gigging around the Bay area again and plan to record by this summer--stay tuned for the results. |
