Artist History
The Haven story all began in the summer of ‘98 in
sleepy Spruce Grove, Alberta. It was their love
for music that initially propelled them to pick
up their instruments and play, but it was the
logistics of the industry that gave clout to the
idea of learning and mastering covers. It was
this decision that diversified Havens sound pallet
to include everything from soft piano ballads to
hard driving rock riffs. With this diversity
under their belts they went out and offered their
musical talents to the world. Almost immediately
there were takers (see curriculum vitae for
details). Confidence built by early success, the
band decided it was time to move into the studio.
Armed with 12 original pieces they threw down
“A Day in a Life” in January of ‘99. The first
catharsis was complete.
After “Day in a Life”, their influence began to
move into Edmonton, Alberta where they picked up
more and more gigs in popular clubs playing for
friends and incidental fans. Havens dynamic was
upset with the loss of their original drummer;
Cody who ended up being replaced by their current
drummer; Jason. After a brief recovery period the
band realized that if their star is to rise any
further it was time to record in a professional
studio. They chose Swansonic Studios in Fort
Saskatchewan, Alberta, where they recorded their
first demo song in February 2000. This single
song went so well that Haven ended up recording
their first album there in the summer of 2000. It
ended up being called “Metamorphosis” and was
mixed and mastered by Mike Swanson. The artwork
and production of the final release was done in
conjunction with homestead. the PLANT in Edmonton,
Alberta.
The excitement and success of “Metamorphosis”
lead to bigger and better gigs, such as some of
Edmonton’s most recognizable and respected rooms
(see curriculum vitae). Through those they were
able to meet Steve Roxx of Artiste’ Management.
Through his participation and determination Havens
growth has accelerated almost exponentially.
First with an official CD release party, and then
with appearances on both A-Channel and The Bear,
two of Edmonton’s biggest local media vehicles.
This growth has meant that Haven is now busier
than ever and keeps working on new exciting
material, both original and cover . The Band
now looks forward to breaking into the big time
where they can share their passion for their craft
like never before, and with more people than ever
.
