Artist description
In 2001 “down on jane”, was uncapped onto the Pittsburgh music scene enchanting audiences with their rich vocal harmonies, passionate lyrics, opulent guitar lines and an impressive versatility for different styles of music. Getting to this point was not the fairy tale beginning of this story.
The zenith of the band started one night in a coffee house in 1996. As with any adolescent boy experimenting with life, love, and a need for something to make his life seem fuller, this newfound affection for writing original music made a dream seem worthwhile. Playing acoustic guitars through karaoke machines is not what made the boys musicians, but it was the time, patience, and maturity.
As adolescence turned to adulthood, the songwriting matured as well. It was time to take the music to the next level. The acoustic sounds - laid to rest, and the electric guitars with crying distortions christened. The addition of percussionist Tom Staszak, gave this core of three musicians the breathe of life the music needed. With Staszak’s complex rhythmic beats, and signature crackling snare
the band realized it was no longer just a group - they were now musicians.
After the release of “Aestus” – the band’s first six song E.P. in early 2002 “down on jane” continues to develop.
Todd Rogers (Spank) once lead vocalist of the band parted late 2002. After a long and tedious search, Cincinnati native Matt Galluzzo is new to the lineup.
They now continue to work on a new project entitled “Empty Bottle”. Doing it differently is now Hoffman’s credo. According to him,
“This {E.P.} will be more rock focused, and less pop influenced.”
