Artist History
Valerie's talent for singing was apparent in childhood, as she sang and performed for friends and family, singing Barbra Streisand songs. As a teenager, her musical interests ranged from rock acts Heart and Fleetwood Mac to Linda Rondstadt and Joan Baez. At a young age Valerie had an intense passion for music and as she grew up she developed her style by mixing this passion with a more in depth understanding of humanity. Her desire for human understanding and communication led to her earning a BA in Psychology, and work in counseling and teaching. A dynamic and charismatic speaker, Valerie has an outstanding ability to connect with people.
While working in counseling and teaching to support her son, Valerie pursued her singing and songwriting by studying voice, performing in local nightclubs, coffeehouses, and community musical theatre productions and wedding receptions. Later, Valerie worked with her co-writer (now husband) Rudy Ising, recording and writing songs, including songs for a feature film.

Press Reviews
***** (5 stars) Indie Pick of the Month
--Independent Songwriter Web-Magazine
"...a twelve track burst of joy..."
--Splendid E-zine, Justin Kownacki
"With a voice that recalls a young Barbara Streisand, Valerie Ising sings of darkness and light over Rudy Ising's slick arrangements...songs like "Land of Make Believe" and "Troubled Eyes" evoke a dreamy fantasy world, part Portishead and part Julee Cruise, and rich ballads like Leap of Faith make perfect entries for the adult contemporary pop genre, rivaling even Sarah McLachlan...Ising's voice is powerful and her instincts for conveying emotion are strong...Ising really shines."
--All Music Guide, Charles Spano
"...listen to the 12 songs and hear the
common woman giving her passionate
all to the problems of the day. Love,
loss, comfort, adjustment...Valerie reminds
me of Bob Dylan in her vocal style. Utterly.
She also has a hankering for poetry that is
often a lost art in today's 'baby I need you'
or overly clever songwriter's jargon."
--MusicDish e-Journal, Ben Ohmart
"Valerie Ising's
BEYOND THE COMFORT ZONE
reverberates with spiritual issues
and carnal urges, boldly sketched
by Rudy Ising's music and
Valerie's poetry carved by experience."
--Tom Semioli
Allmusic.Com/Amplifier
"...the self-produced CD...is wonderful. Her voice sounds like a mixture of Streisand and Mariah Carey; the pop songs are catchy, the words meaningful."
--Orange County Register (Thursday, Feb 1, 2001)
"...the music is interesting...
her lyrics are solid and heartfelt."
--Amy, Collected Sounds
"This full length collection of original tunes spotlights the artist's intriguing voice...Ising has crafty vocal skills for sure..."
--Music Connection (February 26, 2001)
"Ising boasts a four octave vocal range, and these songs find her putting it to work..."
