Artist description
Nitai Hanna finished high school and the challenge for career, life goals and dreams began. After working only a short while, and having fun playing music and songwriting, he decided to rediscover his spiritual roots. It was during his two year stay in a Hare Krishna Ashram that gave him inspiration to do something uplifting and encouraging for people and society. Music, with real life passionate feel, God conscious perspective and energetic mood, seemed to be his calling. Learning about the modes of material nature goodness, passion and ignorance. Nitai associated passion to his songs and personality.
The name Rajasi, a word from an ancient Sanskrit text meaning in passion, was found in the spiritual book Bhagavad-Gita As It Is. Rajasi was without hesitation the perfect band name for original rock. Nitai kept a close group of friends that were very musically gifted. In need of a place to work and rehearse, Nitai struck a deal with his parents to support a rehearsal room for new rock group Rajasi at the family home. This deal of course, had a catch. It was to only be for few weeks. This was a short time and Rajasi had a lot to prove.
Younger brother Tulasi Hanna was in high school at this time. He was an avid drummer playing drums at school and at home. He was dramatically excited when Nitai brought this music project home. So the jamming began!! It was a miraculous beginning because the music just came out like full songs with great feelings. Jamming turned into a set list and Nitai got so excited he booked Rajasi a show in a little coffee house. It was .well, interesting to say the least.
Three weeks turned into three months and the Hanna family home became Rajasis rock n roll central. Varieties of gigs and events throughout southern Ontario kept them busy and enthusiastic. There was a constant spiritual essence that drove these gifted individuals. Rajasi created, rehearsed, performed, recorded and toured, taking their music to audiences of all ages. Some highlighted stops along the way were Torontos clubs, the Opera House, Lees Palace and Club 360 and Torontos Ratha-Yatra festival.
In hopes of expanding their opportunities, Rajasi moved to Vancouver. They performed in the club scene while they prepared to release their first CD. Things seemed to be going really well for the band but there was always a financial struggle. This delayed releasing their music. It eventually led to these friends parting for independent opportunities.
Nitai and Tulasi regrouped back in Ontario a year later and finally released the original Rajasi music on the Smiles Music Fire album. They have since recorded a new demo and continue to write and perform throughout southern Ontario.
Rajasi is currently operating as an indie band and self producing their albums. They are hoping for some major label interest and the opportunity to be heard over the radio. The steady pursuance of Rajasi by Nitai and Tulasis dedication and determination has Rajasi undoubtedly primed for success.
Rajasi rocks!
