Artist History
In 1985 Ed Lackey, John Carroll and Greg McRay formed Kubical Xphere.
Despite their modest success, the band broke up in 1988 after the announcement
that John Carroll was leaving. In 2001, the "Unknown Destiny" tapes were
discovered in a vault, collecting dust. The tapes were then remastered and
released under the newly formed XpheresongX label. The release of this album
which became known as "Xpheresongs" ultimately brought a reformation of the band. |

Press Reviews
MYTHS is a return to the laid back, guitar jamming sound of the early 70's. KUBICAL XPHERE has taken a sound that had begun to fade into the distant memory of a fading baby-boom generation and made it their own. Familiar, yet original. Retro, but with a sound that lends itself perfectly to the soundtrack of the new millenium.
The 12 tracks showcased in MYTHS display a wide range of style. Starting out with the imaginative rock tune "Under The Grey Horizon" to the electronica-tinged instrumental "Heaven", an inspirational homage to Jimi Hendrix, MYTHS is near perfect in sound, mix and overall production.
Guitarist Ed Lackey is a masterful songwriter displaying his wide range of musical expertise; from the funny, funky ditty "Ass, Gas or Grass" to the blues inspired rock of the heartfelt "Life on the Road" (truly an everybands anthem to living the life of a struggling musician), to the quiet, reflective ballad "Birthday Song", we are kept entertained with the varied, rich texture of song that is laid before us. Upon listening to the song "When You Arrive" for the first time, I was left wishing that the song were longer. Upon repeated listening, however, I realized that this was the intention of the songwriter; to keep us longing for more. This is a task that has been accomplished by this album.
The vocals were excellent. Ed Lackey has a very unique voice; utilizing a clear, emotive delivery which showcases his wide range and grasp of musical style. The bass was not overpowering. There is excellent interaction between bass and guitar, complimented by the spot on timing of the drummer. This album, as a whole, stands up to repeated listening and is an extremely enjoyable return to the classic rock sound.
