Artist History
Biography c/o C.C.
Growing up in a small suburb outside of Detroit, John Clees began his quest for electronic music when he was seven years old. On his eighth birthday, per his request, he was given a silver ghetto blaster in which he could transport to various destinations. When everyone else was asleep, young JC would roll his head back and forth with his arms in the air, pretending he made the electronic sounds by Juan Atkins coming out of his music box. His mother played the piano and organ frequently, and he was constantly exposed to music growing up in his living room. Another early influence includes, “The Electrifying Mojo” on 97.9 FM in the early to mid eighties. John absorbed himself in the music as he watched his family separate from the foundation he always knew. Dance music was not available in his hometown and the closest remedy was rap & hip hop. At the local K-mart, John was able to buy tapes like LL Cool J, Run DMC, Whodini, and Grandmaster Flash, while exercising his creativity skateboarding and snowboarding.
In 1994 he could no longer ignore his inner most passion and had to pursue his music to another level. He felt pressured to attend college with inheritance money he received, but instead he used it to purchase his first Roland keyboard. Throughout the next several years he had created many tracks without the aid of a computer. Two years later he added another element to his studio by buying his first set of turntables. His first love of producing beats inspired an urge to mix records. Producing music and mixing created a balance in his creativity, and the high of releasing himself into sound became greater.
In 2000 his DJ performances included 45 consecutive weeks in a row at residencies which included, The Velvet Lounge aka Tonic with Terrance Parker and The Sky Club with Thomas Barnett. In addition to being featured within some of Downtown Detroit’s hottest nightspots, Foran’s Irish Pub, The Lager House, The Motor Lounge, and several appearances at St. Andrew’s Hall with John Bileebob Williams. John’s career as a producer, as well as a DJ, catapulted in 2001 when he launched his own online record label Redsoul Records.com. Now the whole world is able to tap into years of unreleased material with the option to buy them online. Furthermore, he is able to update the public on current performances and new mixes. In 2002, he had a special appearance during the D.E.M.F. weekend at the Spin/Vibe party at the Pontchartrain Hotel. 2002 residencies include Tonic, Porter Street Station with guest appearances by Mike Clark – Detroit, and The Blue Room Lounge with special guest appearances by Sean Deason of Matrix Records, Dwayne Jensen of Fathom Records, and Reggie Dokes of Psychostasia Recordings. John’s first white label release Melodic Melodies was released on June 15, and can be found at Record Time and Detroit Threads. Melodic Melodies has been played on the Chuck Horn, (101.9FM) program in the United States, and on the Lars Behrenroth’s: Deeper Shades of House in Germany. In March of 2003 his mix was put on Italy’s: Love Nation show which has an audience of over one million listeners. Currently he has finished a remix of Sean Deason’s track entitled: The Shit. John’s version The Final Shit is due to be on the first volume of The Shit remixes due out in the summer of 2003. J.C. Vision and Redsoul Records will never leave you feeling like something is missing. Finally one establishes the highest level of respect for original work, and the only thing missing is what will happen next.
