Artist History
Formed from current and former members of instrumental band Ampline and the now defunct Elk and Low-L Relay, Covington wields a sound all their own. Members Kevin Schmidt (bass, vocals), Drew Bogner (drums, vocals) and Chris Charlton (vocals, guitar) bring to the table a divergent combination of indie, math rock and power punk with an emphasis on melody, dynamics and engaging rhythms.
The members, all from Cincinnati, OH began playing together in 1999 with the first release from the instrumental powerhouse, Ampline. Shortly thereafter, early in 2000 Charlton left Ampline to pursue writing with local emo band Low-L Relay.
Ampline continued to tour and released an e.p. showcasing their new sound. Bogner left Ampline shortly after to pursue other interests. In the summer of 2001, Schmidt and Charlton decided to pick up where they had left off and start writing again.
After enduring a short period of frustration due to the painful task of audtioning drummers, they decided to contact Bogner and soon after, Covington was born.
Covington plans to release their first cd entitled, "a day in the life" on Tiberius Records in December. Look for a possible upcoming tour with labelmates Thistle and Ampline to follow.
Straying from any one specific genre of music, Covington's influences include Karate, Jawbox, Shades Apart, Farside, Fugazi, Texas is the Reason, Firehose, Chavez, Quicksand, Sunny Day Real Estate and Neil Young
