Artist History
Changer started in November 1999 in Akureyri as a side-project of drummer
Kristján as the band he was currently in, Shiva, wasn't very active at the time. Kristján started digging up old songs and writing some new material and in February 2000, Kristján recorded 8 tracks with the help of Alli, a close friend of his. February 29th 2000 marked the release of January 109, a full-length album with Kristján confidently playing all instruments.
Soon it became evident that Shiva would take a long break and Kristján decided to move to Reykjavík and make Changer his full time effort and not just a one-man project. After trying out numerous people, guitarist Jói was discovered.
Snorri an old friend of Kristján from Akureyri joined Changer on bass, but had to leave the band soon because of lack of time. Another friend of Kristján, Hudson, was recruited as a second guitarist. The band was still in great need of a strong vocalist and in Magnús's audition, he blew the band away with his strong voice and unique singing style. He was immediately added to the bunch and in early 2001, Berti, a very talented bass player from local metal band Potentiam, joined the band on bass. The band played its first gig with the current line-up in March and got a very good response from everyone present. Now in late 2002 Changer has enstablished themselves as a premier act in the icelandic metal scene and is set to break the barriers of Icelandic heavy metal.
