Artist History
Fathom was officially born on St. Patrick's Day
2001 in Bohemia, NY at the legendary Lizard Lounge.
Before that date, they were a loose knit band of
friends just jamming together. Adding the Celtic
weavings of John Farrell on Mandolin and Fiddle
changed the course of the band forever.
John DiBartolo, originally a bass player in
Blue Abyss with drummer Gary Tourigny, is now
taking the front as lead singer and acoustic
player. Erich brought his 15 basses, solid picking
style, and strong desire to leave his day job.
Mike Clemente recently came on board adding his
classical guitar training to the arsenal. Fathom's
songs and sound explore landscapes of Celtic myth
breathed through modern and traditional instruments.
Their newly self-released debut CD "Available Light"
mixes the elements of modern rock guitar and drums
with the traditional Celtic sound of mandolin and
fiddle for a truly unique sound. Poetic lyrics
range through weighty spiritual topics to basic
themes of lost love. Their 7 song CD is the
culmination of Fathom's first 6 months together.

Press Reviews
From www.shitenonions.com:
Fathom: Available Light (CD)
"Available Light" is the 7-track debut demo
CD from Long Island's Fathom. Fathom play
what they describe as "Progressive Celtic Rock".
I wasn't sure if I'd like this based on the
description, the term progressive always makes
me wince as I think of overblown, self-important,
70's monsters in dressing gowns like Yes or ELP.
This I like though, the music is much more
contemporary then the progressive tag would lead
you to believe. Imagine if the classic
mid-eighties U2 sound was influenced by
traditional Irish music or the Edge played on
the Waterboys "Fisherman's Blues" along with
strangely enough a touch of "Out of Time" period
REM then you've a good gist of Fathom's sound
(the songs are also good by the way). Recommended
to fans of the Prodigal's or anyone who ever
wished Dave Matthews could do a jig.
JULY 7th 2002 - from Music Matters Review www.mmreview.com
From the leas and vales of Long Island comes a
pounding, heart-rending sound that is a modern,
yet ancient ceili for the ear. Fathom takes
traditional Celtic motifs and sounds, blends in
the modern influence of Irish rock and creates a
look back that moves forward. The jigs and laments
of the Irish diaspora mix with the high, keening
wail of early U2’s Bono and the attitude of bands
like the Cure, the Fixx or UB40. They blend to
form a confluence that can re-energize the jaded
masses, tired to death of cover bands and the too
prevalent mono-dimensional blues-rock band. With
songwriting that is closer to Dylan Thomas and the
aforementioned Bono and throbbing rhythms,
ethereal guitar and turbocharged fiddle, Fathom
is inserted into a category closer to Eileen Ivers
than the Clancy Brothers. The songs emote and
smolder with expressed feelings in themes that
range from failed love to a plea to Lady Wisdom.
The words are peppered with Celtic iconography and
the urge to move is irresistible. Fresh, new, old
and traditional, like a breath of air off the heath,
Available Light is dedicated to toppling towers
and is refreshing in its conception.—Mark Gresser
