Nigel Brewer's "Journey Through a Dream"   USA        Instrumental Shred Metal     Rockin Heavy metal instrumental tunes and great song writing.  "Journey Through a Dream" is one hell of a demo release.  After hearing the first ten seconds of "Dragon's Realm" I knew the whole demo was going to be good.  "Dragon's Realm" has a killer opening guitar riff that carries the song all the way through.  Great leads as well, very catchy and melodic.  You can really picture yourself sitting on the back of a dragon as you soaring through the skies off to a distant land to fight a cause.  Cool harmonies also jump in and out all over the track as well.  "Journey Through a Dream" is a six part track.  Cool thing is he broke it up into different songs and didn't keep it one continuous fifteen minute song.  Nigel kicks off part one "Imagination"  with a great intro lead.  He really knows how create repeating verses to to keep the interest of the listener.  Not many shredders bother to do this, but Nigel does a great job of it!  This song is also jammed pack with some melodic harmonies that have lots of flare.  Some cool interesting tremolo picking can be heard about half way through. Part two "Nocturnal World"  starts of with an evil metal guitar riff that helps set the stage for the track.  Then Brewer goes into some neat Neoclassical lines.  Those are the main lead focuses of this song and the were some well selected passages.  Nigel doesn't go overboard, he uses his melodic talent to carry the song to a second level  "Alone In The Silence" part three is the first slow song on the CD.  Great clean backing choral arpeggios, accompanied by some very soulful soloing.  This track really dawns on the other side of Nigel's playing.  It's loaded with melody and soul.  The track has a very Medieval feel to it, which really can make your imagination drift away.  A very relaxing song, no speedy leads either I might point out.  Part four "Thunder and Lightning" really fits the name because it feels like you caught in the middle of a violent storm.  It's defiantly a faster paced song.  The backing riffs demand head banging!  Lots of open string pedal ideas come in and out all through out the track.  You can really get a taste for Nigel's speed playing in this song.  The double bass drum work really rocks, it also keeps that power metal theme alive throughout.  "Remembrance" part five is another slow number that again shows Brewer's ability to solo with soul and feel.   Some of his best lead phrasing is present in this song.  Awakening (Nocturnal World Part II) part six is a great way to end the "Journey Through A Dream" story.  Its a medium speed number with plenty distorted guitars and leads.  These leads are very well put together and I think he really spent some time working these out.  Last but not least track three "From Beyond" really rocks.  It's filled with a great groove and classical driven leads.  He really makes the Harmonic Minor scale shine through here.  I like how he blends different lead movements together in this song and  you never get lost along the way.  The main melody lines always pop in to restate the main parts of the song.  His leads are also at a medium pace in this song which really give it a life of its own.  They really fit the rest of the song's structure, speed would have ruined this cool work's vibe.     Looking, back this was a good demo.  Lots of imagery while listening to the music.  I can see myself back in medieval times slaying demons and fighting for the good.  So if your a fan of the Euro Metal and Power Metal scene you could seriously get into this in a heartbeat.  Good guitar work and song writing go hand and hand with Nigel Brewer.  The sound quality is great for a self produced demo.  I think the next step would to hit the studio demo a few of these and get them out to record companies, especially those located in Europe.  I think they would eat this stuff up in a second.
