Artist History
Edmund's Crown is a Nashville power pop/rock trio consisting of guitarist/singer Greg Pope, drummer David Sprouse, and bassist Jeremy Richards. The band's sound combines melodic guitar riffs, a dynamic, often thrashing rhythm section, and three-minute songs loaded with surprising twists and billboard-sized choruses. Rooted in character-driven rock influences like The Who, Big Star, and The Police, the originality of Edmund's Crown shines through in vulnerably ambitious lyrics and a healthy disregard for pop predictability.
Founding member and songwriter Greg Pope came to Nashville four years ago by way of Raleigh, NC and Minneapolis, MN. He toured as a second guitarist for Grammy nominees PFR and later joined that group's bassist to form the modern rock act Eager. Despite significant radio success ("Crimson For Downy Flake," "Decide For You") and album sales (30,000), the band split up when its record label dissolved under financial stress. Undeterred, Pope kept writing songs and began rehearsing with fellow musical acquaintance Sprouse. Richards pursued membership in Edmund's Crown having been a PFR/Eager fan.
Taking their name from a C.S. Lewis novel character, Edmund's Crown now performs around the Southeast and is getting set to release its first full-length independent album.
"We're about taking a fresh approach to the pop/rock equation," says Pope. "We're not trying to be unconventional. We're just doing what we like to do without trying to please everyone." |
