    Artist description
E.M.T. (Experimental Mind Therapy) is a metal band from Waterloo, Iowa. The band was formed in December of 2001. E.M.T. is made up of vocalists J and Jack Viers; guitarist Tom Ogle; drummer Brian Goldsberry; and bassist Aaron Wickham. The overall sound is heavy guitar riffs backed up with melodic electronic overtones in a deluge of sound that floods the listeners brains to the brim. The beautiful and brutal tones of the human voice are utilized to create an eerie, terrifying, and wonderful mood that meshes perfectly with the alternating bone crushing and spine-tingling haunting guitars. The band's influences cover all genres of hard rock and metal. The sound that is produced by this mongrel mix of musical style has much in common with many other bands in the modern-rock genre, but Goldsberrys crazy drum fills, Ogles evilized guitar effects, and Wickhams low-end thump make the style in a league of its own. Viers and J bring in some pop sensibility with their floating melodies and razor-blade rhymes. Ask a member of E.M.T. what the band sounds like and you will get a one-word answer: "Ambitious." E.M.T. has caused an enormous stir in the Waterloo and Cedar Falls communities through endless self-promotion. Their official website, www.emt-online.net, is receiving approximately 800+ hits a day. E-mail has been received from all over the U.S. and overseas as far away as Brazil, Canada, Australia, Italy, Portugal, and Germany. The band has integrated a guest book/forum and a chat room with scheduled chats. Photos of every single show are archived for fans to check out at their leisure. Guestbook, multimedia, mp3's. It really is pure 100% chaos at all times! Requests for music demos skyrocketed throughout the beginning of 2002. In response, E.M.T. recorded and pressed a three song demo containing the songs "Escape", "Father", and "Falling Down." Released in March, 2002, 400 copies have been given away at the expense of E.M.T. Most went to fans via mail and by hand at live shows. Others were utilized as promotional tools and were sent to record companies, agencies, and radio stations. The song "Escape" wound up getting some spins on a few radio stations. The Shift-89.7 FM in Mankato and Lazer 103.3 in Des Moines played the single extensively. KWWL, News Channel 7 utilized the song "Escape" in a televised segment entitled "Behind The Bands." Before even playing one show E.M.T. quickly amassed a die-hard following. Proceeds from the first two gigs helped finance several TV commercials that aired on KWWL to promote a show back in July, 2002. E.M.T. is not about "putting up some posters and calling it enough..." A street team has been assembled to handle most of the papering and promoting. Street team members receive free band merchandise in exchange for promoting. The trade-off is beneficial for both sides. The professional level of promotion has propelled the band to the next level. E.M.T.'s live shows around the area have taken on a life of their own. The over-the-top promotion gave E.M.T. the opportunity to get in on the bill with many top-notch local and regional acts -- including the national signed/touring acts 12 Stones, Supafuzz, 8 Stops 7, Anyone, Bemus, Cattle Decapitation, and Bloodlet. E.M.T. is now on a headlining status in the Waterloo and Cedar Falls area playing the best clubs and bars. Little by little E.M.T. have started branching out into other major cities and states. More and more live dates are filtering in and the calendar is quickly becoming filled. With old and new fans requesting a full CD - and with the need for something new to send record labels, a new recording was started August, 2002 and was completed in May, 2003. The E.M.T. 10 song debut CD "The End" has been released May 23, 2003. Contact Info: E.M.T., Attn: Tom Phone: (319) 346-2770 E-Mail: theband@emt-online.net Web Site: www.emt-online.net

    Press Reviews
Press clipping from the Waterloo-Cedar Falls, Iowa Courier newspaper. EMT works on building reputation in Cedar Valley By KELSEY FOUTCH, Courier Staff Writer WATERLOO --- They've only been together for a year and a half, and they've only played 20 gigs. But heavy metal group EMT has plans to take over the world, town by town. "We've started a little bit of a fan base, and we're looking to do that in every place we play. We have CDs in tow, and they're eating those up," says Tom Ogle, guitar player for the group. The group has a small following in the Cedar Valley and Ottumwa so far, and 168 fans are signed up on the EMT Web site, www.emt-online.net. "It's kind of puny now, but it's a good start," says Ogle. "People hit our guest book, and we get them on an e-mail list." The group counts on the word of mouth the membership list provides, as well as a 10-person street team that hands out free merchandise bearing the EMT logo. "It's kind of funny. I have people at work that have an EMT sticker on the back of their car. Every little bit helps. The more propaganda we can throw up in Waterloo the better," says Ogle. The group hopes more fans are drawn in by the uniqueness of the ensemble. Instead of one man helming the mike, a duo lends their voices. J's screaming power rock vocals blend in true metal fashion with Jack Vier's melodic pipes. Rounding out the group is Ogle on guitar, Aaron Wickham on bass and Brian Goldsberry on drums. Ogle believes the unique style --- he describes it as "fire and ice" --- divides EMT from other cookie cutter rock groups. "We had a few lineup changes, things normal bands go through in their infancy," remembers Ogle. "But we worked that little hiccup out of our system. Now we've fallen into a core group of five guys that get along perfectly and write perfectly." With their first CD hitting the streets today, EMT won't spend long out of the studio. The recording process is an easier one due to Ogle owning a 16-track studio. The guys don't stick to one tried and true formula for songwriting --- they just try and stick with what's in their hearts. "Our topics are all kind of different," says Ogle. "There are songs about love and hate, the bad and the good. There are some serious topics going on, but that's real life. That's how it is." EMT headlines its all-ages CD release party tonight at The Reverb. Opening bands include Stavross, Mandown, Divide Zero, 4 Ohm Kavity. The show starts at 9:30 and cost of admission is $6.
