Artist History
Formed in the Spring of 2001, Overturn set out to be the new force in the music world. Drummer Mike Miller and singer Josh Sawyer formed the band after Sawyer made the journey from Grand Prairie, Texas to Northern California. The two quickly got moving on the idea and passion of creating encouraging, meaningful music in a positive environment. After multiple opportunities came, it was clear that this was the beginning of Overturn. Mike and Josh started writing, rehearsing, and recording in Mike's Nor-Cal studio, and were preparing to hit the music scene with a bang. Still, the band was not complete. A long and serious search took place for that missing link, the missing band member that would join the family. Mike Miller recalls a conversation he had with Josh Sawyer. "I remember saying that when we found the right person, I believed it would be right in our own backyard....." Soon after that, the two members bumped shoulders with long time friend and musician Robert Gillette. He was the perfect fit, and Mike and Josh new it immediately. Robert brought a whole new presence and attitude to the group with his energy and musical background and ability, making the fit perfect. Overturn was ready to go. After intense rehearsals and meetings, the group hit the road. In 2002, Overturn covered ground from California to Washington to Tennessee, where they played intensely. The whole goal was to meet and encourage as many people as possible, on and off stage. And they did. The band was always eager to stay after the show and sign autographs, shake hands, and spend time with the fans. In January of 2003, the band relocated to Southern California, where they linked up with guitar player Marc Hampson, who quickly became part of the Overturn family. His non-stop passion for the music and meaning of the band has brought a whole new aspect of maturity to the group. Overturn's high successful and popular self-titled EP, which was released in 2002, is still in high demand. The band is heading back in the studio to record their full-length album in 2003, and will hit the road in the Summer. The combination of the band's live performances mixed with their passion for creating excellent, melodic rock music makes Overturn a huge force to be heard and seen all over the world.
