Artist History
- Mike Podwal and his brother Ariel started to play guitar at ages twelve and nine, respectively. After becoming enamored with the drive found in the punk stylings of Green Day and The Offspring, they adopted the energy and accessible melodies of The Beatles, Paul Simon, and U2. They dove headfirst into learning what it takes to artfully write songs with dynamics, depth, and a kick. After writing songs together for eight years, they joined forces with two of Ariel's friends in the summer of 2001, one of whom was heavily influenced by the new punk revival and the other by a wide range of rock. The chemistry was instant with Dane and Oliver, and the emo-rock quartet began to play shows around Westchester, NY, forming a solid local following.
- In the fall, Mike started to attend Columbia University, after transferring from Middlebury College in Vermont. Then in the spring of 2002, due to a number of logistical problems, Two Shots and Oliver parted ways. The vacancy was filled by Gabe McMahon, the first drummer to play with Two Shots when the group was being formed. Their shows can be described as an onslaught of guitar and vocal harmonies, lyrics that pierce you, melodies that refuse to leave your head, and energy that won't let you stand still. The band just finished in the studio, working on their second EP at Nada Recording. With Greg Mayo the playing keyboard and sing backing vocals, they are forming a substantial following in the New York college scene..
