Artist description
The Maryland State Boychoir draws talented boys from Baltimore City and eight surrounding counties. Here, boys of all racial, ethnic, religious, and socio-economic backgrounds come together to experience the challenge and thrill of making music. As these boys lift their voices, all background differences disappear and they become united through the joy of singing.
Boys may enter our program at the age of seven and remain with us until the age of eighteen. Once a boy passes an initial audition, he begins the exciting journey of learning the skills of music theory and vocal production. As a part of our program, all members are given private voice lessons with one of our staff voice teachers and theory instruction with a theory coach.
We firmly believe that by setting high musical standards for boys, they are challenged to grow as musicians and individuals. Boys in this program enjoy singing the great choral literature that spans the past five centuries. Our repertoire includes selections ranging from Gregorian chant to Renaissance music, Baroque to clasical styles, gospel songs to spirituals, and ethnic music to Broadway tunes.
Over the past fifteen years, our boys have performed throughout the United States, Canada, The Netherlands, Germany, Austria, and Italy. They have been featured on national television and have had their recordings broadcast throughout the country on Family Radio. |
