Artist description
Downshallow, one of the most prominent bands to come out of the NY/NJ area in recent years, delivers a brand of hard rock, in which melody and energy are tightly bonded. A union of lyrical imagery, expressive dynamics and solid grooves, Downshallow's music has garnered attention through shows, the internet, and the traditional "word-of mouth", playing at legendary clubs like CBGB's & The Saint. Alex Shaddix, the vocalist & lyricist of the group, sings with a heartfelt intensity that is unmatched by many in music today. Rob Ferreira, guitarist, elevates the listener with his soaring solos and awe-inspiring textures. The bottom end is held tightly together by Ant Salcedo, whose melodic approach to bass playing adds substance to the rhythm section. And to round out this chemistry infused unit is drummer, Justin Smith, who provides accentuating rhythms that create the difference between a standard song and a sonic movement. Four eclectic minds blended into one ~ Downshallow.

Artist History
Downshallow was formed in December of the year 2000 from the remains of several NY/NJ area bands. The band is led by Alabama native Alex Shaddix, who moved into the Tri-State area to pursue his love for music. Along with guitarist Rob Ferreira, bassist Ant Salcedo and drummer Justin Smith, Downshallow came together and their chemistry was instant. In April of 2001, Downshallow went into the studio to record a four song demo/EP and began to play the regional clubs. The band went back into the studio in the Spring 2002 for a follow up EP of eight tracks, simply titled, Downshallow. The CD was released in September of 2002. Downshallow has continued playing out stretching out and about the Tri-State area. |

Press Reviews
There is mucho talent swimming around this CD from Downshallow. They've put together quite a tasty mixture of lyrical imagery, melodic hooks and solid grooves. At times delivered with a gentle subtly that grows to a hammer over the head intensity.
The harsh, in-your-face reality here was quite an eye-opener for me. Mainly because I had first experienced the band's music at an acoustic performance. At the time, it was something that they claimed to not do very often. However, it was (and is) something that they do very well. ~ Stephen Bailey 02/26/02 |
