Artist description
Though classified under "Metal" for categorization, we consider ourselves basically genre-less. Our songs turn out however they turn out. Some are angry hardcore anthems, some are pure hard rock, some are love-torn ballads, and some fall in between. The only thing common in all our songs is the emotion we put into them. |

Artist History
The story behind Dark Gleaming is actually the story of 3 or 4 bands...
Wax Tadpole/Forgotten Species/The Unsociables
This trio of horrible, horrible band names represents the first incarnation of Dark Gleaming. When Phil Petit and Tim Croteau were sophomores at Coyle & Cassidy High School in Taunton, MA, they got the idea of making a band. (isn't that how all these stories start?) The original lineup was Tim and Phil on guitar and bass, respectively; Richard Forbes, an urban cowboy of a vocalist; and Declan Healey, the Columbian Wildman, on drums. The only show ever played by this lineup was a Coyle talent show, where the guys covered "Whatever" by Godsmack with the intro to "Am I Evil" as covered by Metallica. Differences in scheduling led to the loss of Declan, but some nice connections-namely, Rich-led to the arrival of Mike Pratt on drums...
Sight Beyond Sight (or SBS)
The name came from an 80s cartoon (Thundercats) and was kinda long, but we didn't care. By Phil, Tim and Rich's senior year in high school, they had an amazing drummer who was taught by the same guy who taught Aerosmith's drummer. They even wrote their first original songs, "Identity," "Personal Space," and "Superman" (an instrumental). This lineup only played that year's talent show (playing "Mudshovel" by Staind and "Identity") before Rich Forbes was no longer a part of the band.
SBS (v. 2)
The other version of Sight Beyond Sight featured Chucky Peters and Tim on vocals. Chucky was in the band for one week, yet managed to learn most of their songs by the night of the show (last minute much?). The only show played by Sight Beyond Sight (v. 2) was at Cafe Mio in Taunton, MA. The set involved "Superman," Chucky singing "Last Resort" by Papa Roach, "Whatever" by Godsmack and "B.M.G" (his own song), and Tim singing "Identity" and "Personal Space." Chuck was almost never seen or heard from in the band again--we all knew this was a one-time deal.
Krank Shaft
After the Cafe Mio show, and the graduation of Tim and Phil out of Coyle, Mike decided he wanted to start another band. He recruited Coyle classmates Edd Breault and Danny Curry for vocals and guitar, repectively. For a bassist, he turned to his old bandmate, Phil. What emerged was a hardcore band originally known as Krank Shaft. The name lasted about 3 weeks before they became Tossdown.
...And then there was Dark Gleaming
Eventually, Phil and Mike decided they wanted another guitar player. After messing with another guy for a few practices, Phil suggested they get ahold of Tim. Having wanted back in a band for quite some time, Tim didn't hesitate to say yes. After spending a few nights learning the bands songs and writing new guitar parts for them, Tim appeared for the first time as a member of Tossdown at a show at the Lafayette Club in Taunton, MA with 7th Rail Crew, Closer Than Kin, Rebound, None But Burning, and At Will. This was the first show featuring the current lineup. After some discussion-and fear of one day getting sued by the band Throwdown-the band's name was changed to Dark Gleaming- a reference to the "twilight's last gleaming" line of "The Star-Spangled Banner."
The rest of the Dark Gleaming story is being told now in a club or hall somewhere near you.
