Artist History
NIP was formed in March 2000 with lead-vocalist/guitarist Nick Washburn and bassist Troy Winston. Nick is NIP's principal songwriter and has experience with several different bands. Troy has sixteen years of experience on bass. He also has nine years of drums and has done studio work with both. Rob Fuller is like a force of nature behind the drums. He joined the band in late 2000 and has been drumming for nine years. Mike Cappiello "Cappy" joined the band in 2002 and has been playing guitar for several years. Currently, the band stays busy playing gigs, writing new material, circulating the demos, and practicing to maintain tightness.

Press Reviews
Great new material.
I like tracks two and three in particular. The story in "Starting Over" is
really good and the music is solid, but I think there is a bit too much
crammed into the song lyrically...like your lead vox guy is trying to put in
too many details and he sounds a bit rushed. Great concept though.
"Day By Day" (not what anyone would expect) is a solid tune on both sides.
Great opener to it...strong guitar. Like it a lot
"Maynard" (no props to Maynard Ferguson here) is really creative...like the
change of pace in it from the other two tunes. Great soft ending to it as
well.

Marcia Jones - All right, I admit it, I was skeptical.
Christian Rock? Lord, give me strength.
Well, I am here not only to issue the boys in the band a public apology,
but to say, these guys can rock!
First a disclaimer, the two CDs given to me by the band to sample do not
represent their current four-person makeup. But having experienced the band
live, I can testify that they are tighter and better than what is put down
on these two discs.
I say experienced, because to hear N.I.P. in person is to undergo a
full-fledged musical assault. These guys are passionate about what they do
and they are not afraid to scream it from the rooftops at decibels equal to
that of the space shuttle launch at close range. (Trust me, I had to
surrender to the runway attendant’s earmuffs just to be able enter the room
to take pictures.)
On the two sample CDs, the self-titled Nurtured In Purple and Seven,
N.I.P.’s volume can be controlled, but the passion cannot. Nick Washburn is
a talented and honest songwriter, at times the soulful storyteller, winding
a journey through song , as he does on “Starting Over” - she made it to her
final hour, Marys just a little scared, she knows she should be starting
over, she wipes her tears with her long brown hair - other times the raging
rocker, relentlessly bashing home his message as on “Don’t Burn Me” a mean
pro-life anthem – Don’t burn me, please dont burn me, don’t burn me, please
don’t burn me.
N.I.P. is difficult to pigeon hole and the music chosen for their sample
CDs reflect their diverse musical range. From rap/rock to pop/rock to the
all out chug of heavy metal and then back to sweet, unaccompanied acoustics,
N.I.P. succeeds at satisfying Washburns decree that they are a “modern rock
Band”. Only one song on one CD left me flat, the musically redundant “I
Wonder”, though the music fit the theme of the monotonous trudge of modern
life.
Washburn is at his best when he gets personal as he does in the
excellent “Jerkwater”, a soulful ballad of a young man’s love/hate
relationship with his small-town roots, a stand out acoustic number as good
as anything currently in rotation on local radio.
To put it simply, if you like Creed, Payable on Death (P.O.D.), or just
good old 1970s inspired rock with a positive outlook, then give N.I.P. a
try. Do not be put off by the Christian Rock moniker. As with all good art,
N.I.P. speaks to the human condition, the personal triumphs and trials
shared by us all. The only thing lacking is the bitterness and hopelessness
so abundant in today’s rock music. As I said to a friend, if you don’t read
the lyrics, you'd never know they were anything but a kick-(ahem) rock and
roll band.
