PERSONAL BIO
BILL BRICKUS
DUB NOMAD
Bill Brickus is a 29 year old musician/producer from Philadelphia, Pa. Bill’s musical history starts in 1984, where at 11 years old started playing violin and was in the Coatesville Area Orchestra until the age of 15. He crossed over to bass guitar, all the while learning piano. Bill was in his first band at 15 in Coatesville, Pa and by graduation had picked up two more instruments, drums and guitar. Since then up until now, bass remains his main instrument of choice.
From 1991-93 Bill attended the Art Institute of Philadelphia and majored in Audio Engineering and Video Production. That is when the idea hit to fuse his musical ability of core instruments and technical skills to produce his own music. For the next two years Bill practiced and tuned up his style and still recording demos and performing around Philly, with acts such as Chuck Treece and Timi and the Dub Warriors, playing bass.
In late ‘95, Bill decided to take a break from the urban chaos, musically and spiritually and moved to Hawaii. In ‘97 he went to Cali to pick the pace back up a notch, where arriving in Santa Barbara, show picked up immediately. Bill went back to school, Santa Barbara City College, for Audio Engineering and Art (Sculpture), while playing keyboard for Ras David, a reggae singer, until going back to Philly in’99. Bill’s musical highlights in Santa Barbara was opening for Damian and Julian Marley (Bob Marley’s Sons), opening for the Itals (Reggae vocal greats) .
Back in Philly, Bill decided to start his own production company, Jahdub Productions which started in 2001, where he is the man of the one man team. Jahdub Production specializes audio productions, graphic and web design.
Bill’s new arrangements in which he engineered, produced, composed and performed, re-enters Reggae Dub. As there are no lyrics on the entire CD, Bill challenges the depth of this great underrated reggae style. In a mix of electronics and acoustics, a blend of the past meets the future giving Jahdub its sound and making Bill’s CD original and new.
