Guitarist John Erbentraut sounds like the real deal. With 30 years experience playing the guitar and in the various styles of classical, flamenco and jazz, I wanted to see how his versatility blended into his work. I have listened to his piece, Stormy, and I must say that this is an excellent display of instrumental skill. His playing is quite elegant, and his timing is dead-on and precise.
This piece is a blend of classical and flamenco (clamenco) played on a Spanish guitar. It has an atmospheric, moody feel laced with bursts of dynamism. The song is slightly subdued throughout, yet carries on a romantic tone, common to Spanish guitar. The real beauty of this song shines when it flares up out of the calm. Mr. Erbentraut is very good at carrying a gentle, lulling melody, and then punctuating it with an energetic chord or two. His skill is quite admirable and it is displayed through this piece.
This man is a well-respected guitarist and I will not be one to deviate from the norm. His skill and his music both glow with brilliance. This man is an expert in his craft, and his music is worthy to join the ranks of the elite in classical guitar.
