Artist History
At age 18 Ben was the only electric guitarist in the local school district's history to have recieved Musician of the Year by his fellow student body and faculty alike. At age 19 He began studies in hammer-on guitar with Steven Lynch (ex-lead guitar player for the famed 80's group "Autograph") In 1999, while attending Green River Community College he wrote and arranged a hammer-on guitar rendition of Rimsky Korsakov's Flight of the Bumblebee for electric guitar, stunning both his peers and proffessors at the annual GRCC Talent Auditions. Harwood took 1st place at the annual GRCC talent show, and moved on to his second and third year studies at Pacific Lutheran University (one of the most renound universities for musical study in the country). He entered PLU on a classical guitar scholarship, but eventually moved into the realm of composition for multi-ensemble instrumentation, and his first love, the electric guitar. Last year, Ben was awarded the highest honor a music student at PLU can recieve, The Mary Baker Russell Music Scholarship. He is currently the only electric guitarist in PLU's history to have recieved this award. |
