Artist History
I was a bit of a late starter with music; I started out as a bass player (which I still do) at the age of 17, although I had been singing in choirs from about the age of 8. I drifted into songwriting when I was about 19 which pushed me into picking up the acoustic guitar. At that time the Pogues and Billy Bragg had arrived on the scene who, along with discovering Roy Harper, Nick Drake and Tim Buckley, inspired me greatly. I had grown up through the punk revolution and the energy of The Clash, Jam and Sex Pistols were as much an influence as anything else. I think my music, reflects more what I’ve been inspired by rather than direct influences. The biggest influence for me as a songwriter is one of Britains finest, although relatively obscure, songwriters; Peter Hammill. From him I learnt that you could write songs that were challenging, not so much in a political or social sense but psychologically and emotionally |
