Artist History
August 9th, 1995 – “The Day the Music Died” for hundreds of thousands of Deadheads who just lost their beloved Jerry Garcia. But for three Deadheads, that date was the beginning of a new adventure. Whisperings of a new Charlotte, NC band, Wavy Train, were followed by realizations that the journey was not over for the Deadheads. In fact, there was a light at the end of the tunnel. But the light was actually a “headlight on a North bound train”, the headlight of Wavy Train.Founded by college buddies, Cal Comerford, John Dimier, and Rob Armstrong (guitar, bass, and keys, respectively), Wavy Train forged a reputation of performance by jamming Grateful Dead, Phish, Rolling Stones, Jimmy Hendrix & Widespread Panic tunes. Wavy Train surprised the curious and impressed the cynical. The word spread rapidly about the upstart local band, and the audience grew in numbers and craziness, but this was only the beginning. In September 1996, Stefan Hawkins joined Wavy Train on percussion. Mr. Hawkins added tribal textures to the rhythm section that allowed the band to explore different styles and techniques.Spring 1997, Jason Byrd joined Wavy Train as lead guitarist. Offering hypnotic melodies with a very tasteful approach, Mr. Byrd is well disciplined in jazz, blues and improvisation, and boasts an impressive 3 octave vocal range.Early 1998, Wavy Train began emphasizing original music, to be played in the same spirit and philosophy of the band’s musical roots. Wavy Train’s goal was to keep the musical flame burning those looking for an outlet to dance, spin, sweat, and sing.January 2000, the technical jam-master, Ben Speir, joined Wavy Train on drums. Mr. Speir’s addition to the rhythm section brought more solidity to the band, allowing the fluent melodies and segues to flow with ease and consistency.Today, Wavy Train is ready to make the push for a larger fan base. They’re playing to capacity crowds and have developed a dedicated and rapidly growing group of fans. Wavy Train will have you shakin’ and groovin’ in no time. And, their professional attitude in all of their business affairs, make them a reliable source for your musical entertainment. |
