    Artist History
Dude, let's start a band!" "Ok. What should we call it?" "Pus Driver!" "The Busdrivers? Uh, ok." And during that one particularly boring History class five years ago in Brooksville, Florida's Hernando High School, the eclectic ska/punk phenomenon known as The Busdrivers was born. Band founders Sterling Stokes, Matt Daugherty and David Bueno "started the bus" in 1998 and eventually moved the operation to Gainesville where they found a steady lineup in early 2000. With the addition of Erin Weldon on trumpet and Min T on guitar, the band was finally ready to churn out their first album. That Fall, the band recorded their debut full-length album, Missed This Little Trend, engineered by three-time Grammy-winner Ronnie Cates. Unfortunately, the monetary constraints of attending the University of Florida kept them from being able to share this album with the rest of the world at the time. They were finally able to release the album in April 2001, and The Busdrivers' name and reputation grew quickly thereafter, leading to a radio jingle for a popular Florida restaurant chain and a European distribution deal with the UK's Good Clean Fun Records. Very successful first tours of the southeast, northeast, and southwest soon followed, thanks to incredible grassroots promotion by a very enthusiastic street team. Soon the band members found themselves working or taking classes full-time while traveling almost 1,000 miles every week for shows around the southeast. The rugged schedule eventually took its toll on frontman Stokes and bassist Dan Shorstein in Spring 2002, and both decided that leaving the band was best. The band quickly found second guitarist Randy Karriker, bassist Justin Tzuanos and singer Dave Jacobs to round out the lineup that should be rocking crowds for years to come. With the addition of the new members, The Busdrivers are as strong and motivated as ever to bring their uniquely technical funk and jazz-influenced ska/punk sound to the masses. This melting pot of musical mayhem--comprised of a Jew, a Polack, a Columbian, an Asian, an Irishman and one female for good measure--is gearing up for relentless touring of the United States and the United Kingdom and a follow up to their successful debut album. Skapunknerdrock may just be the next big thing. And to think--all this from something that was started by a bunch of band geeks with nothing better to do.

    Press Reviews
“'Missed This Little Trend' is probably the 2001's 'best record that you won't have heard yet'. And it's absolutely criminal that you maybe haven't have heard of this little lot just yet, because this record shits on 'Borders and Boundaries' from a great height... The Busdrivers can only go on to bigger and better things. The talent is there, the songs are there, all they need is a lucky break.” (Punktastic.com cd review 12/30/01)***** "Now this band is the definition of entertainment. From the nerdy uniforms to the character reenactments, The Busdrivers made the audience laugh at their antics and showmanship. However they would break from this playish fun and go right into super-defined ska. Each member of this group showed incredible talent. From lightning quick and precise bass licks to tasty guitar and horn sections. Not to mention a very good drummer. This group has it all. The showmanship once again put a strange twist to a show that highlighted what is obvious, that these guys and gal are true musicians and will impress anybody that enjoys music talent" (Realitysnap.com's review of the WMNF Pre-Heatwave concert, 5/21/01)***** "From Florida (USA), come The Busdrivers. Seven ska punk nerds rocking out in the vein of Less Than Jake and Reel Big Fish. Put simply, this album is a masterpiece and in my opinion is even better than the more well known ska punk bands of today. They play happy and bouncy ska punk riddled with humour and gauranteed to rid every suicidal tendancy from your body! They have also received airplay on Radio 1. A definite must-have for every ska punker." (20 Deck Records, UK)***** They describe themselves as 'skapunknerdrock.' While the label is fitting, it doesn't even begin to describe how fun, energetic and infectious their music is." (Brian Walker, 103.7 WRUF FM)***** "Another collection of fun, infectious and highly danceable tunes can be found on Good Clean Fun's latest release, the excellent Missed This Little Trend CD by The Busdrivers. The Busdrivers are from Gainesville, Florida, which is also home to Less Than Jake. And like LTJ, they certainly know how to write a top quality, poppy edged ska/punk song.” (Do The Dog Skazine, UK September 2001)***** "The Busdrivers sent the crowd scrambling to the stage. Dressed like a chess club gang of nerds, these guys had style, humor and passion..."(Moon Magazine 4/4/01)*****
