Press Reviews
New Times (Phoenix, AZ)AZCentral"OEF has gotta be the hardest working band in the valley this St. Patrick's Day!"Folk Roots Magazine, England(John O’Regan)ONE EYED FIONA One Eyed Fiona. Own Label OEF 001One Eyed Fiona hails from Apache Junction, Arizona and have plied their wareson the local ceili, bar, Renaissance faire and Celtic festival circuit. Basically a trio featuring guitarist/percussionist Chris Turner , his fiddle and banjo playing partner Jerica and vocalist Mark Rice their musical know how arrives at a seamless merger of Irish traditional, Folk, blues and old timey styles. Morrison’s and Donegal Reels kick hell for leather while The Lost Dog Reels with its Appalachian twang adds a pronounced old timey feel. Jerica Turner’s adept and rock solid fiddle playing is the obvious focus with strident guitar/bodhran backing while Chris Turner’s underused lead guitar makes a quiet but worthy contribution. A generally boisterous outfit with its feet on the breaks and its eyes on the dance floor most of the time, One Eyed Fiona are not bereft of ingenuity and sensitivity on occasion. Southwest Sunset and Erin Shore are epic arrangements coupling traditionally based musical color with bluesy vocals, and these chemistry experiments yield promising fruit. While playing their Celtic music predominantly straight, One Eyed Fiona’s idealism includes both imagination and a degree of musical crisscrossing.
