Artist description
In May 1998, Celia Kipp, Alexz Adams, and Josh
Almoney pooled their musical talents for a chance
to headline a popular Baltimore festival. They
assumed this would be their one and only
performance; but they were wrong. The audience
response was so overwhelming that they decided
to stay together, and named the group Hot Honey
Magnet. In June, 1999, Hot Honey Magnet expanded
with the welcome addition of Leslie Russel on
lead guitar.
The band’s upbeat tempo, combined with Kipp’s
original, harmony-driven lyrics have had critics
comparing Kipp to Ani DiFranco, Tori Amos, Sinead
O’Connor and Beth Orton.
Hot Honey Magnet delivers a passionate and
emotional performance - that sometimes may
require venues to have knowledge of local decency
laws and fire regulations. (When it has been
appropriate, Kipp has been known to step on stage
wearing only a cowboy hat, chaps and two strategic
ally placed bumper stickers!)
