Artist History
F.O.F. was formed in early 1996 by guitarist Bryan Bryan, and vocalist Gerri Riggs. Bassist Nik Name and drummer Johnny Vegas found their way into the line-up by the spring of 1996, and the writing/recording process began.
Before the group even stepped foot on a stage F.O.F recorded a six song e.p. CD. The self-titled CD was used as a marketing tool to start a local buzz happening in Winnipeg. The disc received radio airplay on Winnipeg's 92
CITI-FM and a live radio interview with 92 host Barry Taylor soon followed. The group performed live on the Manitoba Television Network's "The Scene". F.O.F's disc was featured in the Winnipeg Sun's Indie 500, a review of
Winnipeg's up and coming independent bands and solo acts.Since the release of F.O.F's debut CD, the band has focused it's attention on defining their sound and live show. The result is a tight and polished band with a sound
carved in stone. Comparisons have been made, but there is a uniqueness to the band. In early 1999, FOF recorded their debut Attack Records release at Phase One Studios in Toronto. The album "JAM" was produced by Mark S. Berry (The Headstones, I Mother Earth, The Kill Joys). The 11 track album is slated for Canadian release in Mid September 1999. |

Press Reviews
WINNIPEG SUN FRIDAY MARCH 13 1998 -
Fewtrils of Fey Cd EP Indie
Straight ahead no-nonsense, four chord guitar rock
that harkens back to stripped down fare like
Teenage Head or The Ramones - with a little bit of
pop-metal anthemizing.
Honest and inoffensive.

An Alternative to Alternative
Different bands stand out for different reasons. In
the case of Winnipeg's Fewtrils of Fey, it is their
musical style which sets them apart in the emerging
local scene. "We're alternative because we're not
alternative", says vocalist and guitarist Gerri
Riggs.
Riggs, as well as guitarist Bryan Bryan, bassist
Nik Name, and drummer Johnny Vegas, have a sound
which is best described as straight ahead rock and
roll with influences from glam to the blues, and
everything in between. "It's bluesy, and it's got a
a back beat", says Name.
According to Riggs, all the members of the band
had a common reason for forming Fewtrils of Fey.
"We all said 'We don't want to be a cover band, we
want to play real rock and roll", says Riggs. "The
main concept is to try and write good original
music and get a record deal in the future."
Riggs says that the main difference between Fewtrils
of Fey and previous bands he's been in is attitude.
"The good thing about this band compared to other
past projects is that we've all found a common place
to bring music to", he says. "Each of us knows what
part we play, no one's trying to outshine anyone
else." Bryan agrees "Everybody's cooler," he says.
"We all have the same idea."
Formed in early 1996, Fewtrils of Fey have been
steadily gaining momentum through a combination of
live shows and recorded releases. The self-titled
six song CD, earned the band airplay on 92 Citi-FM
with the song "Did It In A Minute". Riggs says that
although the CD served a useful purpose at the time,
the band has developed significantly since then.
"When we released the CD it was more of a demo," he
says. "It was more or less a really expensive calling
card. Now that we've had a chance to grow we have
more continuity."
Their new CD "JAM", was recorded at Toronto's
prestigious Phase One Studio. And is expected to
be release sometime in the fall of 1999.
Along with their music, the band also has quite a
distinctive visual image. According to Riggs, their
look is part of the Fewtrils of Fey philosophy. "We
got tired of seeing people on stage in tee-shirts
and jeans," says Riggs. "If you're going to put on
a show it should be visual as well as musical. "Thats
our stand on music." |
