Press Reviews
The sounds of synthpop made famous in the 80s by groups like Erasure, Pet Shop Boys, and Dead or Alive are definitely alive and kicking and have never sounded better. davidmahr's long-awaited follow-up to his critically-acclaimed No Drama! CD pulsates with driving dance tracks reminiscent of the ’80s sound but enhanced with a driving bass for the ’90s. The haunting lyrics of abandoment, redemption, loss, and new beginnings provide the tracks with an edge that explore life's reality. Definitely not bubble-gum music. My only criticism is that after only five tracks, I wanted more. Alex White, Outwired/Outword Newsmagazine, November 1999"davidmahr does it again! The Lost & Found EP by davidmahr is an excellent sophomore effort from the southern Californian synthpop maestro. Five brand new songs written with SFoRcE (who also coproduced) and L. Deved Smith II (the man with the beeps and blips) comprise this excellent plastic disc. The album goes from up (with songs like More Each Day and Out Of Control) to down (with Rain), and in between with Never Alone, an example of pure pop perfection. This disc is well worth checking out, don't miss it!" Mark Stryker (ispr@hotmail.com) from Dallas, TX USA , August 29, 1999 " davidmahr is a pop artist for both the masses and the music academics - hook lines and rhythms that could rake in royalties like nobody's business, yet intelligent chord changes, arrangements and soulful vocals. "Little Boy Blue" is the kind of song that could be on the car radio and all conversations would stop." RadioStonewall, mp3.com September 2000 “Beautiful synthesizer pop music á la Erasure/Depeche Mode, circa 1985, with a 1990’s sensibility. Catchy melodies, bouncy synthesized multilayer basslines and dramatic lyrics all make this bay-area grown CD a pleasure to listen to and a great conversation piece for the 20-something New Wave jet set crowd. A dream to put on the CD player at work, push the repeat button and let the day zip past you while tapping your foot underneath your desk to the synthpop rhythm.” Kevin Alfuso, Oblivion Magazine, Volume 4, Issue 7, June 19 - July 10, 1998 |
