Artist History
BUDOVOOBA began in 1996 as a group of New York University undergraduates looking for a common outlet for their diversified musical interests. Performing at small venues in New York City’s Greenwich Village area, BUDOVOOBA started out playing an eclectic mix of original music spanning genres from funk and groove to Latin and blues. Calling upon fellow hometown musicians, the members of BUDOVOOBA have expanded their numbers and, hence, the band’s creative horizons. In its latest and most manifest evolution, BUDOVOOBA is a powerful rhythm and horn-section driven band focusing on the live experience and it is BUDOVOOBA’s versatility as a live act that remains the band's biggest draw. Without hesitation, BUDOVOOBA can rip through a heavy blues and rock inspired number before sliding comfortably into a slow and smooth funk or rap-laced groove jam. These talents, along with the overall engaging approach of BUDOVOOBA, have gained the band a loyal following of fans and friends. Over the last four years, BUDOVOOBA has crafted an extensive catalogue of crowd-favorites and signature compositions. In 1999 they released their independently produced debut album, "Backyard Rubber." BUDOVOOBA is currently focusing on a pair of studio efforts, with plans for both a second album of new material and a separate Live Album, tentatively scheduled for release in September 2001. |

Press Reviews
"With focused funk roots paying homage to the funk master James Brown... These guys are fun to watch and are a ball of sheer funk-dilly-icious energy that don't stop even when your feet try to. BudoVooba has... a true solid in-the-pocket horn and rhythm section. You're doing a whole lot of nothing if your bridge can't stand the weight and BudoVooba can work a mean bridge into the better part of 10 minutes! BudoVooba is precise and on point, even when throwing some reggae up in the mix. They are definitely a good-time band who loves what they do and wants you to. You know that BudoVooba's having fun up there and everything is kept rather light because of -- and in spite of -- the funk." -REVIEW BY STEPHANIE SMITH, WWW.HARDROAD.COM ........................"The boys rock out hard while guitarist Tom funks it up with much wah!" - The Lobster, Phish chat on-line music review, 05/98 ....................... "A talented band of college-age musicians, BudoVooba has come on the scene as ambassadors of the totally hip." - Joe Feczko, FMS 12/98 ......................."I just listened to Soulified Groove Lesson, and I loved it!!! Imagine real musicians playing real instruments!!! What a concept!!! I'm looking foreward to checking out the rest of yo tunes!" - Jack the drummer for Rotary Styles, mp3.com Pop&Rock Review BB |
