    Artist description
Studied mostly jazz, and lots of pop, a couple of degrees in classical piano. Love Joni Mitchell, Motown and Donny Hathaway, Steely Dan (the older, good stuff), Peter Gabriel and Daniel Lanois. I'm a big fan of melody, harmony and lyrical CONTENT. Can't stand to listen to the radio, and I don't watch TV - it's worse than heroin and rots one's mind. I like being able to shift from standards to silky ballads, to quirky original pop hooks, while keeping the audience right "there" through it all.
    Music Style
Jazz influenced adult pop, soft rock
    Musical Influences
Joni Mitchell, Steely Dan, Peter Gabriel, Adrian Belew, Bill Evans, Sting
    Similar Artists
(people tell me...) Sting, Daniel Lanois, Joni Mitchell, Steely Dan, Peter Gabriel, Chet Baker
    Artist History
I began playing piano at age three. I have a master's degree in Piano Performance and have studied jazz with some of the finest players in the idiom. I've also been an actor and toured for a few years in college with a modern dance company. I dig so much about the performing arts, particularly the necessity of the audience's energy and participation in the performance moment. I've been in tons of bands and have shared the stage with artists as diverse as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Junior Brown, Sun 60, Tiny Tim, and Terrence Blanchard. Over the years I've had the oportunity to perform with such notable jazz artists as Clark Terry, Sonny Stitt, Bud Shank, John Faddis; and with vocalists as diverse as Bobby McFerrin, Annie Marie Moss, and Molly Brown.

    Press Reviews
"...a great jazz player with an amazing pop sensibility." "On this latest release, Perfect Strangers, Steve teams up with two modern pop and jazz virtuosos: drummer Mark Raynes and bassist Eric Thorin. Drawing from their shared experience in numerous musical settings, together they weave an evocative texture of rich ballads and surprisingly catchy pop hooks."
    Additional Info
Excellent skills as accompanist, band leader, arranger, musical director. Have my own home studio and I'm pretty mean with a snow shovel!
