Artist History
Steady State is
Scot Gordon (Keyboards), Born June 25, 1970 in Tokyo Japan.
Douglas R. Petz (Vocals), Born June 17, 1970 in Tucson Arizona.
Doug Petz and Scot Gordon became friends at the age of 13 while participating in Civil Air Patrol. After leaving C.A.P. in 1985, they remained friends and started listening to alternative pop artists like Depeche Mode, Ministry, Skinny Puppy, and New Order. Scot decided that he wanted to write music after falling in love with the aggressive pop sounds that these bands pioneered. So with the help of a loan from his parents credit card he acquired his first Synthesizer in 1986. That Synth was a Korg DS-8 Multi-timbral. To be able to write songs Scot bought Passport Master Trax for the Apple II+ and used his headset as a microphone. Scot continued to write songs in his bedroom until he graduated from high school in 1988.
After graduation Scot and Doug got an apartment together and started a band. Doug, being more word oriented, was a natural lyricist. His voice, being deeper in tone than Scot’s, made him perfect for putting hard core vocals behind Scot’s melodic electronic sequences. The two continued to write songs until 1990, occasionally performing together at local dance clubs. Deciding that the part time jobs that they had were not earning enough money to get the equipment that they required, they enlisted in the Air Force. During the next four years in the Air Force, Scot continued to write music and Doug continued to write poetry. Scot managed to write about 40 songs in between trips to England, Saudi Arabia and Turkey.
After leaving the service the dream was still alive. Doug now worked for a lending company and Scot worked fixing computers as a contractor. They both drove for Pizza Hut at night to make ends meet. During the little free time they had, they worked on music for their band Steady State. Their studio was designed to be able to write quality music at home and then keep the same level of performance on the stage. All songs were recorded on a two track DAT, the same as if it were recorded live. Like many other songwriters out there, Scot dreames of one day touring Europe He will never stop trying.
