Artist description
Describing themselves as 'Glenn Tilbrook meets Annie Hall', the first release by 'Dredge and Lyons' is the 9-track mini-album, 'Tangled Net Of Thorns,' on Emote Records. This showcases their original blend of unusual harmonies, heartfelt lyrics and acoustic pop hooks, and combines the lush production of the single with the subtle dynamics of the acoustic session. The mini-album contains affecting, swirling music and unusual instrumentation including harpsichord, piano and a string quartet. There are heartfelt ballads, upbeat acoustic singalongs, memorable tunes, and their distinctive intertwining vocal sound. Their CD includes the swooning vulnerability of 'Tangled Net Of Thorns,' the joyful rhythmic strumming of 'Can It Be Done,' and the plaintive emotion of 'Shadows and Light.'
Dredge and Lyons are currently writing material for a fully produced album and will be touring the US in the very near future. For further information on interviews, gigs, CDs etc, please telephone:

Artist History
English singer/songwriter John Dredge wanted to become involved in pop music ever since seeing The Monkees and hearing The Beatles. His first group, 'Dynamo 33,' played all over London and gained an enthusiastic following for their dynamic guitar pop songs and John's heartfelt if slightly eccentric performances. They recorded a melodic album of original material called 'Green Cafe' which was very well reviewed, and included songs about Kate Winslet and the film 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape?' John then began to listen to more acoustic music and started to perform as a solo act, and his melodic sensibility and plaintive voice began to attract considerable acclaim. Greatly encouraged by this, he wrote twelve songs and released the album 'Daylight' for which he decided to use only an acoustic guitar and his voice in order to push himself from a songwriting point of view. This resulted in a varied album of differing moods and styles, although lyrically he created a uniformly uplifting approach. The album was very well received and this led to gigs and sessions on college radio. At this point he met Laurie Lyons.
American singer/songwriter Laurie Lyons began her musical career as a backing singer with an Elvis tribute band where she discovered her gift for creating unusual and highly melodic harmony lines. She then joined a new wave punk group called 'The Plague' in which she began her career as a singer/songwriter and rhythm guitarist. Developing this direction, Laurie acheived considerable success with her new wave pop/rock band, 'The Social Lites.' Their EP 'Social Lies' picked up heavy rotation radio airplay in Seattle and on American college radio, and prestigious gigs included the Seattle Music Festival, 'Bumbershoot'. Laurie also discovered a tremendous talent for singing jazz standards. She performed with Fred Radke, trumpeter with the Harry James Orchestra, and attracted rave reactions wherever she played. Striking out on her own, Laurie recorded a highly melodic EP of her own pop/rock material entitled 'Rock Therapy' which received an excellent reaction, combining subtle production with memorable pop songs and her breathtaking voice. At this point she met John Dredge.
Dredge and Lyons first met on a songwriting course in Devon. When John heard Laurie's soaring, melodic voice he instantly knew that they would work very well together. He wrote a song for them and Laurie immediately came up with a superb harmony line which perfectly suited John's lilting vocals. They had similar musical influences and styles which gelled beautifully, and resulted in a distinctive, haunting, ear-catching sound. There was only one problem: Laurie lived in Seattle and John lived in Edgware Road. So Laurie flew in to London with the aim of recording as many songs as possible together, and they had soon come up with a fully produced single (including the first song he had written for them, 'Turn It All Around') and an acoustic session of seven memorable, melodic and harmonically beautiful songs.
