Artist description
VMA Records' hard rock act FEFF is hunkered down in Manhattan's Dubway Studios, half way through recording their debut EP, 'Raw Commentary'. FEFF was founded by lead singer and guitarist, Rob Pfeffer. He was soon joined by his brother Dan Pfeffer, on bass and -- more recently -- by C.J. Smith, on drums. A favorite of downtown club audiences, FEFF is best known for Rob's pulsing presence and potent four octave vocals and the threesome's aggressive melodies and straight forward guitar driven sound. Ranked as one of New York City's top acts to see by musictv.com, FEFF has also attracted local media attention and garnered national exposure via a full page profile in Metal Maniacs Magazine (see press page).
Native New Yorkers, Rob and Dan and Arizona-raised C.J. collaborate on the music; Rob writes all the lyrics. "I try to point out the absurdities of the every day," he confides. "People look for a voice to represent their frustration with the nonsense of the daily struggle. When people feel like I'm commenting directly on a situation relevant to their lives, the connection becomes more personal. When they can relate to you, you've got a fan!" FEFF makes no bones about staying focused and goal oriented, even if the members' agendas sometimes vary. "I enjoy the whole aspect of creating music," C.J. says. "But the bottom line is I just want to tour and play for a good long time. Simple. That's it!" Dan agrees but is quick to add, "I hope we can help to bring hard rock back to a place where everything isn't so monotonous. I think audiences are tired of three chord songs that are totally dependent on a huge chorus. We strive for a great chorus surrounded by a great, well written song. And if FEFF is one day regarded as an upper tier band with solid musicians, it'll all be worth it."
But what of the prerequisite pursuit of fame and money?
"Goals are all relative," comments Rob. "Fame and money are wonderful fringe benefits, but they're dwarfed by the feeling you get as an artist when you're doing a show AND SOMEONE IN THE FRONT ROW SINGS YOUR SONG BACK TO YOU!"
