Artist description
Gavin Mc Niece is one of the most promising new DJ / Producers to hit the New York scene. His well thought out and meticulously mixed sets which range from hard dance to chill trip hop can be heard in several clubs throughout the city. Gavin’s combination of various genres proves he is one of the few DJs today that truly has a style of his own. It is a sound developed through playing warm up sets, main sets, and alternative sets at countless venues.
Originally from Tucson, Arizona Gavin spent his teen years singing in rock bands and performing in symphonies all over the West Coast. During this time, he was also honing his skills on the cello, piano, and as a vocalist. Being classically taught from an early age has trained Gavin in all aspects of music theory and song writing. Later, at the University of Arizona, Gavin expanded his artistic knowledge by studying music composition and recording arts. It was in college, that he began to focus on DJing and started spinning at parties.
In 1998 Gavin relocated to Brooklyn, New York bringing his turntables with him. While studying at the highly acclaimed National Institute of Audio Research, Gavin began getting his name out there as a promising songwriter and DJ/Producer.
Gavin spent three years as an engineer in several of the top recording studios in the city where he built connections with some of the industry’s biggest talent. He has also worked at two prominent DJ oriented record labels, most recently as the National Director of Internet Marketing and Web Designer at Logic Records/ BMG.
Unlike many other DJs, Gavin is one of the few who can write original songs that make you want to dance. He has already released his hard, dark, and sexy track, “Lamia,” on Universal Records.
Besides obtaining DJ residencies in several of Manhattan’s hottest lounges, Gavin will soon release his debut album, Escapism. The year 2002 is going to be huge for this talented artist. |
