Press Reviews
Bludja – Self-titled EP (Independent) April 24th 2001
For the most part this is damn solid rockin from
these four locals. Check out the chunky flavour
of Downward Spiral, the pacey thud of Bullshit
or the speedy licks of the finalé Black Widow.
But it ain’t all roses. The vocals at times come
off less than perfect and those drum tones
probably needed production treatment. But that’s
mere nit-pickin. In truth, this lot have oodles
to offer and forthcoming releases will doubtless
uphold any lessons here. RICHARD KWONG/Time Off
Bludja – Help Yourself EP (Independent)
December 11th 2001
These locals impressed with their previous
Hard Rock, Originals, 4 Piece, LOUD EP, but
needed a tighter, more professional production
edge. Good news is they’ve pretty much done
that right here. Full Possession opens with
a strong, riff-filled, hard-rock groove, although
Coma comes off a little flat. By My Side, a
re-record from the previous EP, is hooky, urgent
stuff, while the similarly re-done Downward
Spiral is well-paced and evocative gear. These
guys have pretty much nailed a mature hard-rock
sound – what’s needed now is slicker packaging
and top class songwriting. RICHARD KWONG/Time Off
