Artist History
How did it all begin? Why is it happening? Who's behind the melodic mayhem? Well, here's what is known . . .
In June, after the disbanding of rock band io, former frontman Sebu Simonian found himself isolated for the first time from the comfort and pain of second opinions and bittersweet creative compromise. He set out to write and record new material. The venue shifted from the stage and rehearsal room to the recording studio.
Keyboardist/guitarist Ryan Welker had met Sebu in the music department at Cal State Northridge in the Fall of 2000, and after a few jam sessions, the two knew there would be future collaborations. When his search for a partner began, Sebu knew Welker would be the first person to call. Welker performed guitars, some keyboards, and even backing vocals during recording sessions.
As time went by, a number of additional musicians joined in on the development of this project.
Percussionist/drummer Barrett Yeretsian helped program drum beats on one track and performed the dhol [an Armenian drum] on several, and Sebu's younger sister Karin provided her hauntingly beautiful voice on a couple of tracks.
The collaborative efforts yielded numerous recordings and triggered the founding of a new group -- The Unknown Project, a name that Sebu says is not only a proper description of the group, but also a truthful view of life and the universe.
Currently, The Unknown Project is working on a live show. The line-up of the on-stage band and ideas for an incredible stage production are apparently closely guarded secrets. Expect an innovative concert and a breath-taking experience. |
