Artist History
RPM was formed in February 2000 from the remnants of rock band “Free Peace”.
Daniel Hutt (Drums) and Peter Grujevski (Guitars) hooked up with lead Vocalist/Rhythm Guitarist Tome Jovanovski to form the core of the band. Bass player Heath Sampson answered the ad for a bass player and was recruited soon after.
The band started rehearsing and composing new material. Combining Tome’s Korn/Limp Bizkit style riffing with Peter’s melodic playing, and Daniel’s progressive drumming with Heath’s punk bass runs, RPM created their original sound.
The bands view is to create serious and melodic music and have heaps of fun along the way. With influences ranging from pop rock to thrash metal, to hip hop and punk, we are itching to get our sound out to the public and tour till we drop to promote our love of music.
With lyrical themes like suicide, corruption, revolution and cancer, RPM write songs about everyday life and experiences. The views are formed through painful memories and personal viewpoints.
As an example, one of the first songs written was a song called Retribution Day, with a lyrical theme based around drug taking and “needing the fix”. Growing up in Port Kembla, this song was dedicated to the peers that gave it all away for “the thrill”.
The bands first performance was at the Wollongong Uni Band Comp on 8th June 2000, where the band managed to take out first place.
RPM continued playing gigs trying to build up a reputation as a good live act, however, in September 2000 bass player Heath Sampson left the band for personal reasons.
RPM went on as a three piece band at that stage and continued to write songs while looking for a new bass player. Chris Harbin was finally found, 6 months later in January 2001.
After mastering the songs they had written, the band entered Castlerock Studio’s to record their first demo titled RPM in March/April 2001.
In the last 6 months RPM has played with the likes of The Louisville Sluggers, Palladium, Phial and Countersunk from venues in Wollongong to Sydney. So far over 200 units of the RPM CD have been sold.
